Who are SELF?

SELF (trading name) for SELF (Self Education Learning Framework) Ltd., is a company limited by guarantee and was registered in March, 2022. It was inspired by a registered nurse Manager, who spent 8 years caring for 79 Residents and managing 116 staff, whom she found also had caring needs due to long term conditions. She identified the need for the staff to learn to administer their own self-care management and for them to be empowered to take responsibility for their own well-being. Apart from caring for the residents, staff had to learn more about their own conditions and work with their healthcare professionals to know when to ask for help and for them to be respected as part of the team, in being concerned about their own healthcare and well-being, also to embrace a healthy lifestyle.

So, what needs to be done for staff to care for their health? The implied, “do as I say” approach, have not been effective in treating long- term conditions, because it does not empower self-care management nor does it encourage individuals to gain knowledge and skills to take responsibility and learn from healthcare professionals to manage their own care themselves.

Sybil Wright, Founder of SELF (Self Education Learning Framework) Ltd

Sybil writes, “I feel privileged to lead and inspired a dedicated team of registered healthcare professionals to give support and informed advice to people who has healthcare concerns and are already managing 95% of their care. My culture of truth, love and compassion enables me to focus my team’s  attention on caring deeply about the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of each individual with their own health concerns. I believed that the more we care for the happiness of others the greater our sense of well-being.

I come from a long line of caring grand parents, mothers and fathers who shaped me into the person I am today and I am most grateful to them. They taught me to see the world from other people’s perspectives and act respectfully and responsibly . I will always want to understand in detail the needs and expectations of people and provide them with personalised care, so they feel valued and supported as unique being.

I have watched my parents, brother, sister and much loved friends require care and support. This made me more determine to always wanting to make a positive difference. Building on these personal experiences, I am equally determine to be a better  nurse educator to  the Extended  Family I’ve acquired through my work collaboration. I have dedicated  my professional work to provide  care and leadership that is holistic.

I fully recognise, and lead others to recognise, that as people, we are all equal in the desire for happiness and the rights to achieve it;  this help us to  be ourselves - empathetic, responsive and caring towards each other.

A registered nurse and manager for over many years, I have been relentless in teaching  and mentoring a variety of nursing teams  to provide care and attention that I would hope my family and friends receive.  I constantly explore new research, to enrich my knowledge  for  the benefit of those in my care.  I have obtained a variety  of prestigious  care sector  qualifications  and extensive training so I am able  to manage the complex  clinical situations on hospital wards and in care homes, whether  this in my teaching , management, leadership or palliative care roles.

I feel able to lead by example, both responsibly and with kindness. It is this loving kindness, compassion and commitment to standards, demonstrated in our team members’ work, that makes the most positive difference. I have deep desire to continue making a difference in people’s lives  and I am committed to SELF, setting  an exceptional  standard – not only in regulatory and clinical  compliance, but also in providing  multiple opportunities for people to live well, being loved and safe, while surrounded by their families, friends and supportive community”.
